Grow a Garden 2 Beginner Guide — What to Do First
What should you do first in Grow a Garden 2?
The very first thing to do is redeem the code "team green bean" in the settings menu (top-left button). This gives you 3 free Green Bean seeds, which are Rare rarity and a useful head start. Next, go to the seed shop and buy the cheapest seeds available: Carrot (1 Sheckle), Strawberry (10 Sheckles), and Blueberry (25 Sheckles). Plant them, harvest, sell, and repeat until you have **700 Sheckles**. Once you hit 700 Sheckles, switch to Bamboo and never look back — Bamboo is the best beginner money-maker.
How do the basics of Grow a Garden 2 work?
The core loop: (1) Buy seeds from the seed shop (restocks every 5 minutes). (2) Plant seeds in your garden. (3) Wait for crops to grow — growth happens in real time including while offline. (4) Harvest by pressing E (PC) or tapping (mobile). (5) Sell crops to the sell NPC for sheckles. Use the teleport buttons at the top of your screen to jump between your garden and the shops instantly. Check the grow list arrow on the right side of your screen to see timers for all growing crops. Each plant has a chance to get mutations (Gold, Rainbow, Frozen, etc.) that multiply the sell value. Note: crops that are left unharvested too long can become **decayed** — they lose their color and value. Using a watering can on a decayed crop restores its value, color, and fruit production.
How do you expand your plot in GAG2?
Your starting plot is very small — only two strips of garden space. To expand, find the **Expand Plot sign** in your garden area and purchase the next size upgrade. The first expansion costs **500 sheckles**. Later expansions cost more, scaling up to around 1,000,000 sheckles for the final upgrade based on post-launch reports. Expand your plot as early as possible so you can plant more Bamboo each cycle. See the full cost table at [/plot-expansion/](/plot-expansion/).
What should you spend your first 50,000 sheckles on?
After you have 50,000+ Sheckles from the Bamboo method, spend in this order: (1) Common + Uncommon Sprinkler from the gear shop to start getting mutations on your crops. (2) Expand your plot (500 Sheckles for first upgrade, then scaling up) so you can plant more per cycle. (3) **Bunny or Frog pet** — Bunny (20,000 Sheckles, +5 speed) is better for stealing; Frog (10,000 Sheckles, +5 jump) is fine as a starter. (4) Fence Crate from the props shop to protect your growing crops at night.
What is the day/night cycle in GAG2 and why does it matter?
A timer at the top of your screen shows the current phase. Day lasts 8 minutes (safe, no stealing), night lasts 2 minutes (stealing is active). During night, any player in your server can enter your unprotected garden and steal crops. If you are standing inside your garden during night, it is automatically locked. During night you can also go steal from other gardens. New players should **stay inside their own garden at night** until they have fences and some defenses built.
